‘‘Annoying Things in life” #9 Tradies No Show

Now I respect that Tradies are an important industry in our community and are valuable in our workforce. However, from my own personal experience and from the many friends and acquaintances I have, I do not know anyone who has not had the experience of arranging a meeting with a tradie on site and there being the classic “no show”.  This can be very frustrating, particularly if you are taking time away from your own work place to meet at a building site and your own residence when some maintenance is required. I do not think this behaviour is restricted to one particular profession, eg. plumber, electrician, painter, as I know this has happened across all trades on different occasions. It always intrigues me when a phone call is made to a tradie and they show great enthusiasm at the thought of quoting on a job or getting some work from you. They then  tell you that they will call you back in half an hour or later that same day when they complete the important work they are doing. When you do not get a return call, your attempts to contact them again usually results in only a voicemail option. I guess it goes to show that tradies are busy and in high demand even in this time of the Covid pandemic. I often wonder if the same behaviour from a locum medical doctor or ambulance service would be as well tolerated (or laughed at later) if they failed to arrive after an important request. (We all know the answer to that one). I want to acknowledge the reliable tradies I have dealt with in my life and one experience not long ago when I was about to host an important BBQ birthday lunch at my home. Disaster struck! I had a major sewerage leak from an upstairs bathroom which involved the downstairs kitchen and family area. What a challenge a mere few hours before hosting friends. It was not only the emergency clean up I needed, it was also a major deodorant treatment for my downstairs! My emergency plumber did an amazing job turning up to try to deal with the dilemma as much as possible for a number of hours and indeed the party event was able to proceed. Well done, Danny!
Look out for my next posting in the following week
